The whole valley is now in the very caring hands of the National Trust. The yearly sculpture trail mixes the indigenous sculptures with local artists showing off and implanting subtle (and not so subtle) offerings into the landscape along the river path.
Evidence of the industrial revolution and the work of industry is everywhere in Hardcastle Crags. You will see evidence of old quarry work. Perhaps one of the most stunning features in Hardcastle Crags is Gibson Mill, and its reservoir with water taken from Hebden Water. Gibson Mill is a water mill built in 1800 and is smaller than many contemporary industrial revolution factories, such as Salt's Mill, Saltaire, Bradford. See the Bradford tourist information pages for more details on this masterpiece industrial revolution factory.. In August 2005, the Trust will re-open Gibson Mill in
the heart of the Crags as an educational and community centre run by sustainable
energy. The mill, built in 1800, ended its textile production in the 1890s and
took on a new lease of life as a tea room, dance hall and roller-skating rink.
